To assist members in drawing up a contract, our national body Professional Historians Australia has produced a Model Contract and Checklist for the sole use and benefit of Australia's various PHA members and their commissioning agents.

For information on the PHA Model Contract, PHA (SA) members should contact the Association via the contact details provided.

PHA has also negotiated special insurance rates for professional historians who are members of the various state professional historian associations; these cover Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

Another issue that affects the work of professional historians is copyright. The Australian Copyright Council has produced a useful guide for historians: 'Historians and Copyright', rev edn, 2014

For general issues on copyright and details of the publication, please click below to see the Australian Copyright Council website.

Professional Historians Australia publishes a schedule of minimum recommended
rates for the non-permanent engagement of accredited professional historians. The
Scale of Fees document is updated annually immediately after the mid-year release
of CPI figures.

All members of Professional Historians Associations undertake to abide by a code of ethics and professional standards. This code outlines the ethics to which all members are expected to subscribe and describes the standards of propriety,
integrity and competence expected in members’ dealings with clients, colleagues
and the community.
